Keyword: biscuits, breakfast, copycat biscuits, southern biscuits

Ingredients

  • 5 Cups Self Rising Flour
  • 1 Cup Crisco
  • 2 Cups Buttermilk To make your own Buttermilk: mix together 1 milk and 1/2 teaspoon of Vinegar. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  • 1 Tsp Sugar
  • 1 Envelope Dry Fleschman's Yeast
  • 1/4 Cup Hot Water

Instructions

  • Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Activate the envelope of yeast by dissolving it together with 1/4 cup hot water and 1 teaspoon sugar.
  • In a separate bowl mix flour and Crisco together. This will be like course meal. Add the melted yeast and 2 cups of Buttermilk and mix together.

Notes

  • 1 Batch makes approximately 28 biscuits
  • You can also freeze these biscuits.  To reheat: Wrap in foil and bake at 350 degrees.
