There is a Mexican restaurant in town that has the best jalapeño ranch dip. They don’t bring it with the chips and salsa though, you have to ask for the special dip. It’s so good, I could drink it by the bottle.
We go there for the dip. And tacos. Lots and lots of tacos.
A few years ago I set out to find a recipe for the jalapeño ranch dip so I could make it at home whenever I wanted. Of course I checked out Pinterest first. A lot of the copycat recipes out there didn’t seem to be the right consistency of what was actually in the dip. A ton of recipes called for mayonnaise. I love me some mayonnaise, but I knew that wasn’t an ingredient in this dip. I found a recipe that I tried, then made some tweaks and now it’s a copycat recipe that’s as good as the restaurant.
Yes, I know, I know. This is totally different than my normal content. I’m not a food blogger… and this is the second recipe in a row. On Friday, I’ll be back with a fun little DIY…promise!
It would be fun to share an occasional recipe here and there with you. I do have to cook. Like everyday… because for some reason, Mr. Sweet Southern Oaks loves to eat! 😉 Plus the jalapeño ranch dip is a favorite among my friends and is always requested for any get together. I’m pretty sure it will become a new favorite for you, too.
And when hubby says you have to share this with them (by them, he means y’all!) then you share it so all of you can enjoy the yumminess that is this dip. Make this for your Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Or Taco Tuesday. Whatever you’re celebrating, add this jalapeño ranch dip to the menu.
Is the Jalapeño Ranch Dip Spicy?
No, this dip is not too spicy! There’s a little kick, but even my friends that don’t like spicy food enjoy the jalapeño ranch dip! If I’m making it for just us, I usually put in more jalapeños than the recipe calls for to make it spicier, because we can handle the heat. The spicier the better at our house! When I’m making it for a party, I just put in a few jalapeños to control the heat level. The jalapeños give the dip a mild heat kick, but the sour cream, cilantro and ranch help to control the spice.
Jalapeño Ranch Dip Ingredients
This dip calls for five ingredients and only takes a few minutes to whip together. Jarred jalapeños {can be found in the aisle near the pickles}, sour cream, cilantro, cream cheese and a packet of ranch dip mix is all you need. You put it all in the food processor or blender and let it do all the work.
Tip: I put the cilantro in last and pulse it about two or three times in the food processor. I’ve found the cilantro turns the dip green if it gets mixed in too much {but if it turns green, it’s still good!}.
Alright friends, now that the photo shoot is over, I’m off to eat the jalapeño ranch dip! This is the only dip you need for Cince de Mayo… because jalapeño ranch dip is life!
Jalapeño Ranch Dip
Ingredients
- 8 oz Cream Cheese
- 8 oz Sour Cream
- 1/4 cup Jarred Jalapeños
- 1 packet Ranch Dip Mix
- 1/2 cup Cilantro
- Dash of Pepper
Instructions
- In a food processor or blender: blend the sour cream, cream cheese, ranch dip packet and pepper until combined.
- Next, add the jarred jalapeños and blend until well combined. Note: you can adjust your heat level by the amount of jalapeños used in the dip. For a mild heat, use less jalapeños. For a spicier heat, use more jalapeños.
- Add the cilantro into the food processor or blender and pulse it two or three times together. Note: don't mix the cilantro to much or it will turn the dip green.
- Garnish with a few jalapeños and cilantro on top.
- Refrigerate for one hour before serving. Then serve with tortilla chips and veggies. It's also delicious with shrimp tacos or chicken burritos!
