The Christmas season sure did fly by. With my hysteroscopy surgery and recovery, I ended up being behind on all the things leading up to Christmas! I already had written this post, photographed and edited the photos of our house at Christmas - but I had so much to do getting ready for the big day I forgot to post this blog! 🤦♀️ So in the spirit of wishing it was still Christmas, I'm sharing this after Christmas home tour to enjoy before it all comes down. Grab a cup of hot chocolate and … [Read more...]
Infertility at Christmas
It's two days before Christmas and I'm feeling... really emotional. Infertility at Christmas, well that's a feeling that's hard to explain. You can have joy and be sad at the time. You can feel happy but your heart is breaking at the same time. Because grief is not linear. Grief comes in waves and you can't control when it'll come. It comes out of nowhere -- suddenly you're watching Hallmark Christmas movies and for some reason you find yourself in tears. This is where I find myself … [Read more...]

Christmas in Chicago
If you've followed me for awhile, you probably know Mr. Sweet Southern Oaks is originally from Chicago. Last week we took a trip to the Chicago suburbs and spent a few hours in the Windy City. We didn't go to be tourists {although let's get real, I took a ton of pictures!} instead we went to see his best friend get married and to spend time with family. A trip into Chicago to sight see for a few hours was a must! What can you do during Christmas in Chicago? It turns out, there are a lot … [Read more...]
Christmas Home Tour + Snow in Alabama
Grab a cup of coffee, and take a look around on a festive Christmas home tour! Christmas is almost here, can you believe it? It seems like just a few months ago that we were taking down last year's Christmas decorations. Since we're still in the process of working on home updates, some areas just didn't Christmasy (is that a word?) this year, but I'll show you a few areas that got some Christmas cheer! Christmas Home Tour: Snow (December 8, 2017) The Christmas snow was so unexpected … [Read more...]
Christmas Tablescape
This traditional Christmas tablescape embraces the true meaning of the season, decorated with family heirlooms and cherished memories. The antique tablecloth belonged to my Great Grandma Pearla and it's tattered and stained. It tells the memories of many happy Christmases past; the dinners and conversations it's seen over the years. For the centerpiece I placed a reindeer that my hubby and I found out pickin' right after we got engaged. I placed a thrifted Christmas wreath around the … [Read more...]

DIY Copper Christmas Tree
Copper is currently having a well deserved moment, and you can be sure that you'll see it everywhere this Christmas. Copper has become one of my favorite colors this year. Vintage copper, that's one of my newer collections. I knew I was going to incorporate copper in some of my Christmas décor, and that's when I had the idea: Copper Christmas Tree. Boom. I picked up a Christmas tree at the thrift store for $3.00 a few weeks ago and decided to test out my idea. I wasn't sure if it … [Read more...]
