When life hands you lemons, you make a summer centerpiece with them! To me, nothing screams summer more than lemons and other citrus fruits. I love to incorporate them into my late summer decor. Today on the blog, I’m going to share with you two ways to create a citrus summer centerpiece.
I’m blog hopping with Jackie, Liz and Shanna today and our theme is all about summer decor! I decorate for the 4th, then put out some lemon decor before slowly transitioning to fall decor. For now, it’ll be all about the lemons for just a bit longer. The cool thing about this citrus summer centerpiece is that I’m sharing two ways to put it together. I’m using the same supplies inside for each centerpiece – I just switched out the vessels for each. By switching the vessel of each centerpiece, it creates two very different, but summer-y centerpieces!
You can use real or faux citrus fruits or a mix of both! I used faux lemons and the other citrus fruits are real, which we’ve already eaten, because I love a grapefruit snack every now and then.
Citrus Summer Centerpiece Supplies:
Tip: Depending on the size of your vessels, you may need more or less of the supplies listed below. You can use real or faux citrus fruits – I used some of both for my centerpiece. Let this inspire you to get creative and make a centerpiece with citrus and other fruits you already have!
- Lemons (5-6)
- Oranges (I used 2)
- Grapefruit (I used 2)
- Limes (I used 3)
- Mini Faux Lemons, Optional (6-8)
- Eucalyptus Greenery Branches (6-8 stems)
- Yellow Forsythia Faux Flowers (I had one branch, and cut the flowers off of each stem
- Centerpiece Vessel of your Choice – Vintage Dough Bowl or Cake Stand
Option 1 – Summer Citrus Centerpiece in a Vintage Dough bowl
For the first centerpiece stye, we’re using our vintage dough bowl and creating lots of depth and textures. Tip: If you don’t have a dough bowl you could use a large platter or bowl instead to create this centerpiece!
- Inside of the dough bowl, I placed a piece of burlap on the bottom. Next, layer the eucalyptus greenery branches at the bottom of the dough bowl. You may need to cut the greenery stems to make them go a little further in the centerpiece. Take care to make sure the greenery stems are hanging outside the edges of the dough bowl – this is going to start your layered look of the centerpiece.
- Then, I added the grapefruit around the middle of the dough bowl. Up next the oranges and lemons were placed inside of the bowl. There’s no rhyme or reason to this part, you’re just adding all of the citrus into the dough bowl.
- You may need to carefully pull some of the eucalyptus greenery out a bit or add more to create that depth in the centerpiece, depending on the size of your dough bowl. I added more of the greenery into my centerpiece around the edges of the dough bowl.
- Next you’ll add the limes and mini faux lemons, kind of nestle them on top of the other fruits. This will create your next layer into the centerpiece.
- Finally, I added these faux yellow forsythia flowers throughout the centerpiece to fill in any blank spaces to create the final layer.
Option 2 – Summer Citrus Centerpiece on a Cake Stand
For this centerpiece style, we’re using a cake stand! I figure we all have a cake stand to create this style, but if not, you could always use a large serving bowl or plate.
- Place the eucalyptus greenery branches around the radius of the cake stand. Again, you want for the greenery to hang off of the cake stand to create depth on your centerpiece.
- Carefully add the grapefruit and oranges on top of the greenery. They wanted to roll off the cake stand at first, but don’t worry, they’ll stay in place once you have them all nestled together! Then add the lemons, mini lemons and limes on top, nestled into the other fruits.
- At this point, carefully pull some of the greenery out a bit to make your centerpiece look fuller.
- Next, add the faux yellow forsythia flowers around the centerpiece to fill in any blank spaces.
There you have two summer citrus centerpieces that you can quickly create! I think it took me about ten to fifteen minutes to create each one. So the next time life hands you lemons, grab a few supplies and make yourself a summer citrus centerpiece! Which citrus centerpiece will you create first?

I love how you incorporated real fruit too! My real ones wouldn’t last very long either – I love lime when I cook!

Ashlee, I love the dough bowl style best but love the height from the cake stand too. So fun and screams summer time.
