Hello, friends! Long time no see. Life, ya know? And it’s let us down a lot lately. But when life gets you down, a RAINBOW mantel is sure to bring the cheer and make you smile ear to ear. 🌈
I recently took a very long stroll through Hobby Lobby to clear my head and lift my spirits. Walking through the aisles of all the colorful flowers I suddenly found myself inspired. The different colors of flowers reminded me of a rainbow, and instantly I wanted to go all rainbow for my summer decor.
Now, this isn’t your normal primary rainbow theme. No. This is a pastel rainbow theme and it makes my heart happy. I think it helped lift not only my spirits, but Mr. Sweet Southern Oaks’ spirits, too!
Putting together this rainbow mantel was therapeutic for me and is a symbol of what we’ve been through. It’s in honor of all the babies we have in Heaven and hope for the rainbow we still long for. I’ve always loved rainbows and they have such a deep meaning for me now. Sometimes you need some color in your life, and a rainbow mantel is just what the heart needs.
I used a variety of flowers to put together this rainbow mantel. By using different types of flowers, it added different textures, height and movement into the rainbow mantel. I gathered flowers that I liked with a pastel theme in mind and let my creativity run wild. 🌸
PS: Don’t ask me what the names of any of these flowers are… 🤷♀️
Supplies:
- Variety of vintage vases: I already had purple, blue and pink vases.
- Feel free to use what you have on hand because the flowers are really the showcase for this.
- Variety of Faux Flowers in different colors
- Floral Scissors
- Anchor Piece
Putting Together the Rainbow Mantel:
When decorating a mantel, the first thing you want to do is start out with an anchor piece. This is a large piece that will cover most of the mantel. Items such as a large piece of artwork, a large mirror or architectural piece works best for your anchor piece. This is going to be one of the first things that draws attention to the mantel.
Next, add your filler pieces. Use items such as vases or other decor in various sizes and height that you can fill around the anchor piece. For this mantel, I used a variety of vases I already had.
Finally, add in some color to make your mantel pop! We’re using faux flowers in a variety of pastel rainbow colors to do this. By using a variety of flowers here, we have added interest on the mantel. Each flower has a unique shape, varying heights, and it adds movement. Use floral scissors to cut the flower bouquets down or to trim the stems. There was no pattern of filling the vases with all the flowers either. I just cut the stems down and added them around in the vases and kept filling the vases until each one was full. The more flowers you have to work with, the better when it comes to creating a rainbow mantel. Afterall, a rainbow mantel has to be full of color to really pull it together!
The First Step to Move Forward…
And with this rainbow mantel complete, it’s the first step in healing and moving forward. 🌈 Slowly, but surely. I’m trying to find myself and the things I use to love again. Trying to find who I am now after loss and infertility have consumed my heart and mind. And that’s all I can do. One day at a time. One step at a time. And this is me. Trying. Trying to move forward. So to all of you that stuck around after my hiatus from this little corner of the internet and social media, thank you. Thank you for being here and for your support. It truly does mean the world to us.
And with that – ya girl is BACK! ✨
