These homemade fried cheese curds are delicious. Ooey, gooey little pockets of fried cheese – what’s not to love?
I was unsure at first on eating a cheese curd. Not going to lie, the word “curd” kind of grossed me out at first. 🤷♀️ But I tried one because…. cheese… and it was official – I really liked them! So don’t be afraid to try something new sometimes. Because more than likely, you’ll like it.
What are Cheese Curds?
Cheese curds are made from fresh, unaged cheese. They are little bite sized pieces of fried cheese. Delectably delicious!
These cheese curds are fresh from Wisconsin – and where they are known from. It’s fresh cheese and when you bite into them, they make this funny little squeaking sound. Kinda weird, but still, give these a try if you can find them in your specialty cheese aisle or buy them online! {*Not a sponsored link*}
These fried cheese curds make the perfect game day snack and ones all of your guests are sure to enjoy!
Fried Cheese Curds
Ingredients
- 1 pound Cheese Curds
- 1/2 cup Milk
- 2 Eggs beaten
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 cup All Purpose Flour
- 1 quart Vegetable Oil To fry the cheese curds in
- 1/2 cup Raspberry Jam or your favorite Dipping Sauce optional, for dipping
Instructions
- About 30 minutes before you start to make these, place the cheese curds in the freezer. This will help the cheese curds to set and not melt when frying.
- Heat the oil: I used a Fry Daddy for this, but you can also heat the oil on medium heat in a large cast iron skillet on the stove.
- In a bowl, stir your wet ingredients together - the eggs and milk together.
- In a separate bowl, stir together salt, baking powder, and flour. Next, add your wet ingredients to the bowl and stir together. The batter should be thin.
- Coat the cheese curds into the batter.
- Then fry the cheese curds in batches until golden brown. This will take about 30 seconds to one minute, depending on your oil.TIP: I found that the cheese curds kind of clumped together when frying from the batter. So, if you want them to really look like cheese curds, I would recommend to separate them with your hands or a slotted spoon, let the excess batter drip off and place each cheese curd individually into the oil to fry.
- Drain the cheese curds on a paper towel. Place them into the oven at 250 degrees (or your oven's lowest setting) to keep warm while frying the rest of the batch of cheese curds.
- Dip in raspberry jam or your favorite dipping sauce! The raspberry jam adds a sweet element to the salty fried cheese.
Don’t forget to add your favorite dipping sauce! We pair our fried cheese curds in raspberry jam – which adds a nice, sweet element to the salty cheese.
Happy National Cheese Lover’s Day, y’all! I hope you celebrate with all the glorious cheese today!
