There’s a special meaning to the poinsettias in my Christmas decor this year. Which makes this poinsettia Christmas mantel so very special this holiday season.
When it was time to decorate for Christmas this year, there was no plan. Usually I have some idea in mind, but this year I was not sure what I would do. Then I remembered that I brought back poinsettias from my Memaw’s house when we cleaned out her house earlier this year.
And with that, my Christmas theme with poinsettias was born!
I realized that perhaps my Memaw loved poinsettias because she had so many of them and a tablecloth with poinsettias as the design. Plus, they are a pretty Christmas flower. Very vintage Christmas like, too. So this year, I was inspired with poinsettias and I love how the special poinsettia Christmas mantel turned out!
Putting together the poinsettia mantel, I started with this gorgeous sign that I got for Christmas last year. Next, I placed two artificial Christmas garlands and added lights to them. In the middle of the mantel at the top, is a command hook to help the garlands stay in place.
To make the garland fuller, I clipped Christmas tree trimmings that I got for free at the tree lot, and stuffed the clippings into the garland. The wire of the garland and the lights kind of help to keep the tree clippings in place. The clippings help the garland look fuller and resemble that of fresh garland. It also helps to add extra texture and interest on the mantel. And yes! The tree clippings will last all season long! The clippings on the mantel is still very lush and green three weeks later!
Next, it was time to add Memaw’s poinsettias. I started with the white poinsettia garland she had and nestled it into the greenery. This helped to add an extra layer of interest to the mantel. Then it was time to add the special poinsettias. Now, normally I would just take my floral cutters and cut the bouquets up to add into the greenery. However, I couldn’t bring myself to cut up Memaw’s bouquets of poinsettias. Instead, I shopped my house for some vases for the bouquets to make flower arrangements. I had some thrifted milk glass vases and placed the bouquets of poinsettias in each vase. The milk glass vases added height on both sides of the sign. For a little extra fullness in the flower arrangements, I used some left over greenery from the tree clippings and added it into the vases.
The only Christmas decor I bought this season were these three red poinsettias from the local craft store! They were sold individually already, so I placed each poinsettias stem right into the garland. This helped to add a little extra pizzazz on the poinsettias Christmas mantel.
The stockings were hung by command hooks. Tip: to make the Christmas stockings look fuller, stuff them with old grocery bags and paper towel rolls.
Finally, I set up a few artificial Christmas trees around the mantel for an extra festive touch! To bring out the reds from the poinsettias I used red ornaments. Then the champagne gold ornaments brought a touch of elegance to the Christmas mantel. All of these ornaments were thrifted a few years ago!
I love how the pretty poinsettias Christmas mantel turned out this year. Something about the poinsettias make the mantel decor look so classic and timeless.
I like to think that Memaw would be proud that I used her poinsettias in my Christmas decor this year. And the funny thing is… I don’t remember these poinsettias ever being out at her house. But she must have had the poinsettias out at some point!
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas holiday filled with love, happiness and blessings.
