It’s a new year, new month and a fresh start. After the holidays, most of us crave a little simplicity. For the winter months I like cozy winter decor using warm textures and minimal decorations.
It’s blog hop day with Jackie, Liz and Jessica. Today is all about using textures for winter decor. I’m glad to be back to hoppin’ with these sweet friends! I know you’ll love their inspiration, so please stop by and check out their blogs highlighted in gold at the end.
In the winter months of January through February, I like to keep things simple. When packing up the Christmas decor, I keep out a few things. Consider keeping out items such as snowflakes, bottle trees, a few lights, and lots of warm blankets. By just packing up all of the Santas and pops of red, you’re one step closer to all the winter vibes.
I kept out my white Christmas village collection, bottle trees, and just a few lights. A little twinkle never hurt anybody. So if you feel the need to still keep twinkle lights up like me, then go for it! It’s definitely a cozy vibe in my book! 🙂
Cozy Winter Living Room
Keeping with the minimal winter vibe I only did a little decorating in the living room. Using layers and lots of texture is a great decor trick that will add interest for any season.
On the mantel, a strand of white lights are mounted on the wall with some Command Strips. Using Command Strips is a great decor tip because it’s simple to switch things up and doesn’t damage your walls. The second layer on the mantel are two vintage windows. See the lights shining though the windows are already looking cozy! For the third layer, a snowy winter painting is placed in the middle of the mantel. A precious family friend painted this and gave it to me at my bridal tea. We put it up every winter.
On the coffee table in the living room are the white houses and bottle brushes that I used in my Christmas decor. Nothing changed here. And more lights. Hey, twinkle lights are sure to beat the winter blues. 😉 Since the houses are the perfect winter white, we’re able to keep them out all season long.
On the couch, we’ve got a sweater knit blanket that not only adds texture, but adds the cozy factor.
Textures in the living room:
- Twinkle lights
- Bottle Trees
- Blankets
Cozy Winter Dining Room
The dining room is super simple right now, too. There is a quick doughbowl centerpiece I put together using pinecones and some winter greenery picks. I also kept up the curtain of string lights that were hanging in the dining room for Christmas.
To create something similar, all you need is a large vessel, pinecones, and some kind of greenery. I used a vintage doughbowl for my vessel, but you could also use a large platter or bowl. I layered the doughbowl with some burlap. Then placed the winter greenery picks around the perimeter of the doughbowl. I really needed more picks, but I just used what I had. These were a clearance find several years after Christmas and I bought all they had. Finally, I dumped and arranged all the pinecones around the bowl. For a final touch, a beaded garland adds a little more dimension and texture into the centerpiece.
Dining room textures:
- Twinkle Lights
- Pinecones
- Burlap
- Wood bead Garland
Simple. Clean. Cozy. Minimal winter decor that was easy to put together and as a bonus, it will easily transition into Valentine’s Day and Spring decor. Do you decorate for the winter months?
