This boho inspired vintage fall tablescape is what your fall dreams are made of! Vibrant, bold pops of color. A rare, antique china set. Thrifted and antique finds make this fall tablescape a star. I’ve been teasing sneak peeks of this tablescape on Instagram and you guys are loving it so much! It’s actually been a long time coming because I’ve been collecting brass candlesticks all year long – just for the fall season!
I have a thing for putting together tablescapes. They are so much fun to create and can instantly turn a space into something beautiful! Usually I try to pull a tablescape together using items I already had, and this one is no exception! Most people may find putting together a tablescape intimidating – but I promise it’s a lot easier to put together than you think!
Tips to Putting Together a Tablescape:
- The first tip to putting together a tablescape is to decide on a theme or a color palette. Picking a theme will usually help you to pull together a color palette. Using a vibrant color palette is popular this year!
- Fall Color Palette: Rust, Mustard Yellow, Blush Pink with pops of metallics
- Pull out dishes you already have that can be used on the tablescape. Keep your theme and color theme in mind while shopping your home. You’ve probably got a color palette in mind that will become the color story of your table. If not, pulling items you already have will inspire you!
- Perhaps you have some colorful dishes in your cabinets or maybe you have a special china set that you never use. Don’t be afraid to pull forgotten pieces deep in the cabinets out to be used and loved all over again!
- Shop your home for accent pieces. Pull out candlesticks, vases, flowers and greenery, other dishes – any odds and ends that draws your interest will do!
- I like to group similar items together while I shop my home. Keeping all of the florals together, all of the candles in another pile and so on. Maybe you don’t have a lot of vases around your home – get creative. You could use an old food jar and fill it with flowers.
Creating a Boho Inspired Vintage Fall Tablescape:
A plain white tablecloth is a great investment because it can go with any tablescape. A runner helps to create an added layer on the table. If you don’t have a runner, you could use a piece of fabric or a scarf. You don’t actually even need a runner, I just wanted to add a layer here on the table.
Next, I added these rust colored placemats on each table setting. I found these last fall at TJ Maxx and just love the ruffle detail on them! Then, you may remember the copper chargers that I made last year. The copper chargers are a cheap and simple DIY that you will use time and time again!
Now, this antique china set begins the next several layers of the table setting. Fold the linens in half twice to create a rectangular shape and place the dessert dish on top of the linen. You want to create the illusion of lots of layers, so on top of the linen is the salad/ dessert plate, bread plate and bowl. Maybe it’s not set exactly proper – but we are going for depth, layers and beauty on this boho inspired vintage fall tablescape.
Spread throughout the middle of the table are a variety of the DIY brass and thrifted candlesticks. The candles are a variety of sizes and colors from Hobby Lobby. Adding different height within the candlesticks creates interest and draws your inward to the table.
Finally, I had a bouquet of fall flowers from Old Time Pottery and cut the stems off to accent the table with an extra kiss of color.
About the Antique China Set:
This china has a delicate 24K gold lace detail all around the plates and in the center are three colorful flowers. I found this gold china set at a Georgia antique store several years ago. It had been placed inside of a hutch at the store, hidden in plain site. I opened the hutch and there was this beautiful china listed for $10 bucks! Since it had the large dinner plates, dessert plates, bowls, teacups and saucers and a platter – pretty much a complete set – I assumed a zero had been left off of the price tag.
I sent the hubby to the register to find out if the price was correct and as fate would have it, the set was exactly ten dollars. Obviously I had to get it and my whole family had to help us carry the delicate china set to the checkout! I showed y’all the china set in one of my very first blog posts and it’s been packed away ever since. Well, I never forgot that beautiful set and knew this was the perfect tablescape to bring it back out. We did some research on the china set and it turned out to be a rare find from the 1930s made in the USA.
This boho inspired vintage fall tablescape is probably my favorite one so far! It’s vibrant colors, delicate place setting and the gold detail around the antique china set pulls at my heartstrings. The best part is that the only items I bought for this tablescape were the candles and the flowers! This tablescape is beautiful for any time of the year!
