Brass candlesticks are back in style and popular in the home decor world. They can easily mix in with so many decor styles, making it perfect for home decor accents – from boho to farmhouse to modern – brass candlesticks works with it all!
Today I’m blog hoping with Jackie and Liz and we are sharing small craft and diy ideas. Make sure to check out their diy ideas, too! Also, you’re getting a sneak peek at my fall colors this season with these candles! Picture rust, mustard yellow and blush with pops of metallics mixed in!
We went thrifting a few weeks ago and I spotted all of these glass candlesticks near the register. They had a ton of them and were all new with the original price tags on them! I picked up twelve of them because they were only 99 cents a piece and I knew I’d use them for all my tablescapes and vignettes. I decided to try and spray paint the candlesticks brass and they turned out great!
DIY Brass Candlesticks Supplies:
- Candlesticks {I use glass ones that I found thrifting, but feel free to use any candlesticks you have that may need a little updating!}
- Brass Spray Paint – I used Rustoleum Metallic Brilliant Metal Finish and Rustoleum Metallic Gilded Brass
How to Make DIY Brass Candlesticks:
- Wipe down the candlesticks to make sure you are starting out with a clean slate. If there’s any dust the spray paint will not adhere to the surface.
- With even strokes, lightly spray each candlestick with the brass spray paint. Be careful not to spray to much!
- Let the first coat of spray paint set and dry for a few minutes. At this point I had used this one brass spray paint (the Rustoleum Metallic Gilded Brass) and I wasn’t really liking how the candlesticks looked! Maybe it just needed another coat either way; but I decided to try another brass spray paint that I had on hand. So I pulled out the other brass spray paint (the Rustoleum Metallic Brilliant Metal) that was a little darker to try.
- Next, apply the second coat of spray paint on the candlesticks.
- Let the candlesticks dry completely and then you’re ready to decorate with them!
I started out using this brass spray paint by Rustoleum the Metallic Gilded Brass, but I did not like how the first coat looked. It looked more gold to me and not the brass I envisioned. I had another can of brass spray paint on hand, the Rustoleum Metallic Brilliant Metal and it was a little darker. I think the mix of both brass spray paints turned out amazing and totally created that look of vintage bronze candlesticks that I was going for. If you’re only going to buy one can of brass spray paint, I would recommend going with the Rustoleum Brilliant Metal.
These diy brass candlesticks are a simple project that you can put together in no time!
