If you’re looking for the cutest DIY project for Valentine’s Day, I’ve got you covered! This yarn wrapped heart garland is cheap and easy to make – even the kiddos can help you put it together!
The ladies of the Sweet Moda Blog Project are back again this year! Today our theme is all about L-O-V-E because Valentine’s Day is near!
I had all of the supplies needed to create this yarn wrapped heart garland, so free projects are always my jam! You probably already have the supplies laying around your house, too. The heart garland makes the perfect addition to my romantic Valentine’s Day Mantel! For your convenience, this post may contain affiliate links at no extra cost to you. I know y’all are going to want to know where my chandelier in the picture above is from, but it’s out of stock at the moment. However, I found a similar one, and it’s copper instead of the bronze. I love this one, too!
Yarn Wrapped Heart Garland Supplies
- Yarn in the color of your choice
- Cardboard {I used recycled cardboard boxes}
- Pencil or Sharpie
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun & Hot Glue Sticks
- Heart Shaped Cookie Cutter {for tracing the heart shape – or you can free hand it!}
How to Make a Yarn Wrapped Heart Garland
- On the back of your recycled cardboard box, trace the heart shape with a pencil or sharpie. You can use a heart shaped cookie cutter if you have one, or freehand the heart shapes, which is what I did.
- Cut the heart shapes out with scissors.
- Lay the end piece of the yarn in the middle of the heart shape and hot glue it down.
- Continue wrapping the heart with the yarn until it is completely covered. I found it was easier to cut pieces of yarn, wrap around the heart and hot glue that section down, then repeat.
- Repeat the steps with the other heart shapes.
- Use a long piece of yarn to create the garland and hang each heart to the yarn strand. I made a loop with a small piece of yarn and hot glued it to the back to hang the hearts on. Make a knot on each side of the long strand of yarn to keep the heart shapes in place.
This is a cute DIY project that you can use for Valentine’s Day. It would also be so cute as decor in a little girl’s room or for a birthday party! You can get creative with the colors of yarn for your heart garland – making this the perfect project to customize to fit your home decor.
