Today is a happy day because Sweet Southern Oaks turns ONE (well, a few days ago)!!
This year has flown by and I can’t believe that Sweet Southern Oaks’ birthday is already here! Starting Sweet Southern Oaks was something that I wanted to do for a long time. I talked about starting a blog for awhile before I actually ever made it happen. I’m so glad I did because it motivates me to do all the projects around my house. 😉 I enjoy getting to be creative and to share things with y’all and I have loved meeting all of you this year through the blog and Instagram.
SSO has been full of DIY projects and home decor. You’ve laughed with me and cried with me; and you were there when I did a little rebranding and changed blog names! Some of you were inspired to create some of the things that I’ve shared on the blog this year. I LOVE seeing the pictures that you’ve shared with me of your creations through email and DMs of your copper Christmas trees, vintage door headboards and centerpieces. Some of you painted your kitchen cabinets and a few of you have even DIYed your own hardware copper! Seriously, I love it when I get an email or a DM and you saw something on the blog and decided to try it! It makes me so happy to hear about that, you guys are the best and I’m gonna keep ya! 😉
To celebrate SSO turning one, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite posts from the first year, The Best of Sweet Southern Oaks. Click on the gold titles to bring you to the original blog post.
The best of Sweet Southern Oaks:
How to Paint a Porch Swing
You guys loved the bright sunshine, lemon yellow front porch. It was the perfect color for summer! This was one picture that went crazy on Instagram and keeps getting pinned on Pinterest!
$100 Room Challenge: Farmhouse Style Bathroom Reveal
This was such a fun project because I updated our bathroom for under $100 bucks! I love the concept behind this challenge because you can update a space on a small budget. You just have to get creative and use materials and items you already have. Plus, I’m crushing on aqua and copper!
How to Build Open Shelves
You can buy the kits for open shelving, but building them ourselves saved a ton of money! It’s easier than you think to build your own.
Marble Painted Easter Eggs
I love the marble trend! These marble painted Easter eggs are so easy to make. From cheap, plastic Easter eggs to beautiful creations! You can also make marble painted ornaments for Christmas, check that tutorial out HERE.
How to Paint Kitchen Cabinets
From dark and outdated to bright and modern, painting our kitchen cabinets is one of my favorite projects to date. Now the kitchen looks larger, all because of a can of paint! The end result was definitely worth the hard work! Its Lila Blue approved! 😉
Pickin’ at The World’s Longest Yard Sale
The World’s Longest Yard Sale was such a fun trip that Mr. Sweet Southern Oaks and I took together! We can’t wait for next year and we’re planning to get even further at the sales! We met so many people, ate delicious food, bought lots of cool finds and visited places we’ve never been before. If you like yard sales, definitely put it on your list! Check out part two of the trip HERE.
How to Make a Headboard out of Vintage Doors
The vintage door headboard was a project we did long before I started the blog, but it’s one of my favorite projects on the blog. I had lots of requests for this post in the very beginning, which I love! These doors are the ones we stood under and promised each other forever at our wedding and I love the special meaning behind them. You can make your own headboard out of vintage doors and I show you how in this post!
DIY Copper Christmas Tree
This copper Christmas tree was my favorite project from last winter. Check out how I took a thrifted $3 Christmas tree and turned it into a gorgeous copper tree! You can use any paint to do this project, too!
How to Whitewash Wood
Do you love the look of old, whitewashed wood? Me too, but it’s so expensive! Check out how you can make new wood look old with this whitewash technique!
How to Spraypaint Hardware
Did you know you can spray paint hardware? Transform your dingy, outdated hardware with a can of spray paint! Check out the full tutorial! I used this same technique for the copper hardware in the bathroom.
Happy birthday, Sweet Southern Oaks! Here’s to another year of home renovations, DIYs and fun in between! Coming up soon on the blog, I’ll be finishing up the kitchen renovations, creating a guest bedroom and lots of holiday goodies coming at ya soon! Thanks for being here and being a part of SSO!
