Yesterday marked two years since we’ve moved into our little house! I can’t believe it’s already been that long. I still remember looking at probably two hundred or more houses like it was yesterday.
When we first moved into the house, I was not a fan of it. Mainly because it wasn’t my historic house that I’ve always dreamed of and the poop brown walls certainly didn’t help! Well, Mr. Sweet Southern Oaks promised me we could paint the rooms and do some updates to the house. So room by room, little by little, we’ve been turning that house into a home. A home that I love, which is how Sweet Southern Oaks was born.
Progress on the House
This year, we continued painting all the things….so now we’re at probably five hundred ninety nine million walls that we’ve painted! 😉 Not really, but it sure seems like it! There are two rooms left to paint and then we’ll be done with painting….for now! We started working on updating the kitchen by painting the old cabinets; we spray painted the outdated hardware, put in extra storage by building open shelves. We updated our tiny master bathroom for just under $100 bucks which was a huge transformation! We even got new lighting in the dining room and living room!
A New Fur Baby
We welcomed sweet Lila Blue into our little house and she has become a part of our family. We were going to foster her for just a few days, but now I can’t even imagine a life without that precious (sometime crazy) little soul now. One day I’ll share Lila Blue’s story with you and how she came to live with us. Sometimes something so unexpected can change your life forever, and that’s the case with Lila Blue. She’s my heart healer, personal body guard, belly rub lovin’, unexpected blessing. Wow…. that got emotional really quick… but I love that little dog so much! Lila Zoomies and all. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll get the reference. 😉
House Plans: Year Three
We will finish updating the kitchen this year. My vision is a black and white industrial farmhouse style kitchen. I want to add some industrial shelving (DIY style, of course!) and a cool backsplash. I’d love to update the countertops, because boring brown just isn’t working for me anymore. I’m researching affordable countertop options and even thinking of a DIY style painted countertop option, too, and I’m even thinking about doing a DIY project to the kitchen floors. 😉
It’s time to finally conquer my Monica Closet and turn it into a farmhouse style guest bedroom. I’m envisioning lots of whites and maybe even some shiplap.
Another big to do is to get organized. When we moved, I didn’t have time to organize everything the way I wanted to. We only had a few days to unpack before we both had to go back to work… and I was still unpacking into Christmas that year! Yep, we had Christmas cheer and piles of boxes all around. So I don’t recommend moving around the holidays. Some things got unpacked and put into random areas while others never got unpacked and went to live in the Monica Closet, never to be seen again. Now it’s driving me crazy that things aren’t organized and I can’t find stuff… but I can remember where it was in the old house! #organizeallthethings
Of course, I’ll blog all about the projects that continue in the house, one DIY project at a time. So stay tuned for what I’ve got planned coming at ya in early 2019… lots of organization and more work going on in the house. Wishing you all a safe and very Happy Halloween!
