Can y’all believe we are already into September?! Since I love the fall season, I thought this would be a great time to share five fall decorating tips with you because you may be like me, thinking about decorating for fall.
Fall is my favorite time of the year! I love everything about it: the cooler weather, pumpkins, the foliage of the leaves, sweaters and boots, I love it all! Today, I’ll share how to prepare to decorate for fall.
Five Fall Decorating Tips:
1. Pick Your Theme
First, think about your theme or specific color for the season. This will help your decor come together smoothly and will help you decide your vision.
2. Shop Your House
This is my best piece of advice! If you’re like me, you probably have a bin of fall decor in storage filled with stuff! This is the perfect time to pull that bin out and check out what you already have. Maybe you have fall garlands, pumpkins or wreaths you can use again. Perhaps you plan to change up your decor, but do you know that you can paint it or repurpose it to match your decor this year! You can check out my tutorial on how to spray paint fall garland HERE or how to paint pumpkins HERE and HERE. Use what you have and make it work! 😉
3. Set a Budget
Setting a budget will help you not spend money on items you don’t need. Next, it makes you get creative with items you already have on hand and re-use or repurpose what you already have for the season. Therefore, I’m going to be really picky with what I buy and stretch out that dollar.
4. Buy Faux Pumpkins & Greenery
Rather than spending money on real pumpkins and fresh greenery each year, you can buy faux pumpkins and use them year after year. Or you can go outside and clip some greenery from the trees in your yard. Ok, I know what you’re thinking. I’m the pumpkin lady that had over 80 pumpkins in her house last year! Yep. That’s me. Crazy pumpkin lady….ummm, I totally need to make myself a shirt that says that! I have faux pumpkins and decorate with them….but yes, I am going to buy ALLLLLLL the real pumpkins, too! Mr. Sweet Southern Oaks knows my love of pumpkins and he fully supports it and contributes to my pumpkin hoarding!
5. Think Outside of the Box
You probably have some basic home decor items laying around that you can use for your fall decor. Baskets add texture to any decor and are perfect for fall. Put some pumpkins in the basket, add some greenery and you’re done! Copper and gold add warmth and are the perfect fall colors. Maybe you have copper mugs or gold silverware you could use for a fall tablescape?
With these five fall decorating tips, I hope you see that you don’t have to go out and buy a ton of new stuff this season! Using everyday, unexpected items you already own will help you save money to decorate for the season. Happy fall, y’all!
