Pickin’ at The World’s Longest Yard Sale was so much fun! Mr. Sweet Southern Oaks and I traveled through breathtaking country sides and mountains. We spent two days at The World’s Longest Yard Sale traveled into three states and made lots of stops.
Check out Day 1 of pickin’ at The World’s Longest Yard Sale HERE and what to bring with you to The World’s Longest Yard Sale HERE. On Day 2, we checked out of our hotel and we headed back out for our final day of pickin’. Our plan was to do Signal Mountain in Tennessee and then stop in Collinsville, AL on our way back home.
Signal Mountain, Tennessee
On our way back up to Signal Mountain, we were dreading going back up the mountain. The truck in front of us had a trailer attached that said “JUNK TRUCK” and we said, “they’re going to Signal Mountain”. We just knew it… I mean, they’re in the “JUNK TRUCK”! Hahaha! We had been behind the trailer for awhile and they were turning on every turn we were taking. It was obvious they were on the junkin’ trail and ready to do some pickin’ in the junk truck. When the GPS told us to turn back on the roundabout, however, the junk truck didn’t turn. So… we decided to follow them! Ummm, we’re totally normal, law abiding citizens, mmkay?! But, if you’re yard saleing in the “junk truck” you can bet we’re gonna follow you to see where you’re going! 😉 We were right! The junk truck took a different route up to Signal Mountain and the route was SO much better. Thanks, junk truck!
I know we’ll figure the directions out again next year, but I’m not sure how to tell you to go. If the GPS wants you to go on the roundabout, keep going straight and turn on the next exit for Signal Mountain and follow the Hwy 127 signs. Ok, ok, I know, not good directions. I was busy taking pictures, k? 😉
At Signal Mountain, there are vendors that rent a space on people’s land to sell their stuff. A lot of these vendors are dealers and had high antique prices. Not the best prices for yard sales, but if you look hard enough you might find a deal. Honestly, while it was hit or miss, we found the best deals at people’s houses because they weren’t having to rent a space for the sales.
Signal Mountain | Major Stop: Mountain Top
I think the Mountain Top stop in Signal Mountain was the best. It had rained for days, so it was muddy out pickin’ that morning. We made it there before the big crowds. I was hunting for three things: a cool piece of furniture to turn into a changing table for my sister, a vintage church pew and the usual stuff I look for at yard sales. I had made a deal with my sister that I’d text and try to FaceTime her if we found anything cool. The yard sales didn’t bring me the dresser or the church pew I was looking for, so I’m still on the hunt for that.
We did find a cool industrial cart to use as a coffee table in the living room! Mr. Sweet Southern Oaks spotted it first, actually. The seller wanted $175 for it… too high… but for $150, you’ve got yourself a deal! This was the most expensive item of our trip. However, that baby would be at least $450 or more at an antique store, so it was still a great deal in my book. We loaded up our industrial cart and then we went up just a few miles on 127 to Picker’s Field.
Signal Mountain | Major Stop: Picker’s Field & Lone Oak Community Center
We went to the next major vendor stop called Picker’s Field and saw some cool finds, but didn’t buy anything there. Now that I think about it, I’m not sure why I didn’t buy any of these vintage purple bottles because they sure are cool! Oh well, always next year!
Lone Oak Community Center was our last stop in Signal Mountain. We didn’t find anything here either. Lots of cool things to see though!
We stopped at a few more yard sales the houses were having on 127 and I loved this vintage ice chest. In fact, I wanted it for the kitchen. $400 for it?! Umm, no, but thanks? I don’t care how much it’s selling on Ebay, I’m looking for yard sale prices! If I wanted to buy something on Ebay I’d be on the website, not yard saleing. You know? One picture to remember it and then it was time for brunch at Maple Street Biscuit Company.
After brunch, we headed back to Alabama and took the interstate this time. Collinsville was our last stop… but once again we lost the sales. We saw a thrift store that was owned by a church so we stopped in. I didn’t see anything in the store, but we got a lot of help in finding where the yard sales were from all the customers. One person said ” in Gadsden, The World’s Longest Yard Sale!”. Another lady said to to turn right at the light and go up the mountain, you can’t miss it! So that’s what we did, and sure enough we found the sales on Hwy 187. I just love little towns like that, where they help out one another.
Major Stop: Collinsville, AL
There were quite a few vendors in Collinsville. We were in a small, farming community and you could even buy fruits and veggies at some of the sales. We bought an adorably cute little surprise here, so you’ll have to wait to see what we found later! 😉 Oh, but I got pewter candlesticks for FREE at the same place!!! Score! Collinsville was our final stop and with that, we made a detour back into Atalla to get DR.PEPPER ICEES.
Final Thoughts of The World’s Longest Yard Sale:
While we didn’t do the entire route, we did a leg of 127 and a leg of the Lookout Mountain. We met some cool people. Ate delicious food and found some cool finds. We visited places we had never been before. This time we were kind of learning what route to take and we’ll know what to do differently next year. We made memories together and went on an adventure of a lifetime.
Mr. Sweet Southern Oaks was a good sport, hitting all the sales with me in the 100+ degree heat and being the driver. He’d pull off for a sale and would even stop just for me to take a couple of pictures all for the sake of the blog. That’s the life of a sweet Instagrammer/ Blogger hubby though. 😉 I loved our adventure together and we’re already planning to go even farther next year; so you know that meant that he had a fun time, too! See you next year at The World’s Longest Yard Sale, we’ll be ready to go farther North and catch even more of the sales.
On the final post of The World’s Longest Yard Sale series, I’ll show you all my finds and tell you my plans for each piece. So tell me, do you think you’ll go to The World’s Longest Yard Sale next year? Find out more about The World’s Longest Yard Sale HERE.
