School is out and the sun is out, which means it’s time to start working on those summer goals!
Whenever the season changes, I make a few goals to accomplish. I feel like with every new season there are new changes to be made. Maybe like a mini resolution? There’s no time like the summer to start on those summer goals! Here are my goals to check off my list this summer.
1. Summer Goals: Mini {Budget Friendly} Kitchen Renovation
Updating our tiny little kitchen is one of my summer goals. Now, we’re not going to stay in this little house forever so we’re not going to completely renovate, but we will make a few small changes. AKA the budget friendly way! Just a few updates to make it feel bigger and give it a lighter feel…make it feel welcoming. Right now, the kitchen is so dark and dated that really any updates we do will make it look much, much better! 😉 I want to paint the kitchen cabinets and that will probably be the biggest project in this room. I also want to paint to get rid of the ugly color on the walls. I seriously, I think the previous owners got “oops paint” with an awesome deal on a five gallon bucket of brown/beige paint–because the color was in almost every room of the house! I also want to add some open shelving and if the budget allows, update the counter tops.
2. Summer Goals: The Blog
I love blogging and it has become an outlet for me to share my heart with you and maybe help others in the process. I’m not going to lie, I was stepping waaaayyyy out of my comfort zone to even start this blog. It was something that I had wanted to do for a long time and talked about to Mr. Southern Oaks. One day I decided to take that risk and clicked the launch button not knowing what I was doing at all! I’m so glad I did because I’ve met so many amazing people that share the same interests I do from all over– all because of blogging and Instagram. Y’all are the sweetest and kindest friends and I’m thankful for y’all. I’ve always enjoyed creating and doing little projects around our house, so I love that I can document the journey and share it all with you on the blog. I have some big goals for this little blog. So, once again I’m challenging myself to take more risks on my blog and put myself out there again. You’ll see some changes to the blog coming your way this summer…and I can’t wait to share it all with you when I can. 😉 So stay tuned for a BIG announcement this summer…
3. Summer Goals: Clean Out my “Monica Closet”
If you watch “Friends” then you totally get the reference! I have a room that is filled with junk…and I call it my “Monica Closet”. Nobody is allowed in there and it makes me anxious when I go in. I need to clean the room out and see what I want to keep and what I want to donate. Many moons ago, I was an elementary teacher, and I literally have a classroom full of stuff in that room that I need to go through. I get overwhelmed just thinking about it…but it needs to be done. Once that room is cleaned out, it will become a guest room. This is probably my biggest summer goal and one that I really don’t want to do. Once I get started it’ll go fast though, right?!
4. Summer Goals: Be Present
This summer I want to take a step back and be present. Instead of worrying about my house being dirty or the piles of laundry that need to be washed, I want to take time to be present. To forget about the things on my to-do list and take in the moment. Instead of cleaning the house, I want to designate a day to go somewhere with Mr. Southern Oaks. I want to take our dog Lila Blue on long runs and walks in the park… but we’ll see if she can handle all the people and other dogs (she’s super hyper…. imagine Dory from Finding Dory and the dog on Up and that’s Lila Blue!) 😉
I want to go to the local Farmer’s Market and buy fresh fruits and veggies and cook together. To spend time with my friends and family and not think about my list of things to do. I just want to be present and have fun with my people! I want to encourage you to do the same. To be present in the moment with your kids and family. Put down the phone and turn off the tv so you can make s’mores in the backyard, go to the park, or have a family movie night. Be present and make memories that will last forever.
So those are my goals for the summer. Now it’s time to get started and check all those things off my to-do list! What about you, do you make summer goals? School’s out, so go out there and enjoy the summer with your people. Happy Summer!
