Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue… this DIY bridal shower gift basket includes something for each and makes the perfect gift for the bride from you!
Wedding season is upon us, and you may know a bride that’s tying the knot this year. Why not put together a gift basket of special items for the bride. One of my best friends is getting married this summer and she recently had a Couple’s Shower. I wanted to do something special for her and I thought about what to get. I came up with the idea to do a big gift basket with practical items she would use in her home. I kept thinking of the saying: something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and that’s how the theme of this basket was born!
I had completed this gift basket when one night I was watching “When Calls the Heart” {#Hearties} on Hallmark channel (does anyone else watch?!) and the women in Hope Valley threw Elizabeth a shower. A few of them brought her something old, new, borrowed and blue. Rosemary called the items “little tokens of love” and I loved that saying. I knew I had to add that little saying to the gift basket for my friend!
Here’s how I made the bridal shower gift basket:
Something Old
I found these gorgeous vintage bowls at the thrift store! They were 45¢ each and came in a set of five. I fell in love with the little hob-nail detail on the bowls. I really loved the details on them; they just don’t make things like the use to! I thought she could use the bowls for entertaining or even in her décor. One can never have too many vintage bowls, right!? They were hard to part with, but I thought they would make the perfect “something old” for the bridal shower gift basket.
Something New
For her “something new” in the bridal shower gift basket, I scored Rae Dunn stemless wine glasses! They say “Bride” and “Groom” and are part of the new gold stemline glassware. I thought she may could use them at her wedding and that’s exactly what she’s going to do! You can never go wrong with gifting Rae Dunn. 🙂
Something Borrowed
The “something borrowed” in the bridal shower gift baset were family recipes that I passed down from my family to hers. I bought one of those recipe books where you write down the recipes from the dollar spot at Target and I loved sharing some of my favorite recipes with her. To me, there’s something so special about handwritten recipes. Handwritten recipes are a timeless tradition that is slowly fading with technology… but I’ll keep writing out my favorite recipes by hand! 🙂
I included recipes on items I’d bring to parties that I knew she loved. My favorite recipes and things Mr. Southern Oaks likes to eat were included. I also gave her some of my favorite family recipes like Memaw’s Potato Soup and Momma’s Chicken Tetrazzini and Lasagna. I hope she enjoys cooking up some of those special, “borrowed” family recipes. From my kitchen with love.
Something Blue
Her “something blue: in the bridal shower gift basket was a gorgeous blue Pyrex pie plate. It was practical and pretty. Around the holidays, I find that I’m in need of a few more pie plates, so I know it will come in handy! Who doesn’t love a good homemade pie.
A Few More of the DIY Bridal Shower Gift Basket Goodies
In the bridal shower gift basket I also included a few more things. She collects owls, so adding an owl to the basket was a must! These cute little wooden utensils with birds and fun sayings wood-burned into them were absolutely adorable! A pretty aqua casserole dish and an ornament that said “Our First Christmas” was also included into the gift basket.
I got these cute little chalkboard tags and hand wrote the sayings with a chalk marker. I used some plastic cellophane wrap to individually wrap each sayings gift. Then I tied it up with ribbon, and added the tag to each. Coming soon, I’ll show you how I turned this cheap plastic tub into a pretty gold metallic basket in another blog post! 😉
I stuffed the tub with some packing paper and placed fabric on top. Then I added each of the wrapped gifts in the front of the basket and the other goodies were nestled around into the basket. I hand wrote “Little Tokens of Love” to a chalkboard to place into the middle of her bridal shower gift basket. If you know someone getting married, make your own DIY bridal shower gift basket!
