A monogram initial doesn’t get any more Southern, right? So let’s learn how to modpodge letters with this easy DIY!
A sweet friend of mine wanted to create something for her baby’s name and asked me to brainstorm some ideas for her. My best friends know that when it comes to anything crafty, home decor or pickin’– I’m the one to come to! 🙂 I came up with two ideas for her and I’ll show you the other idea in another blog post.
She’s a busy mom with an active one year old, so I knew she needed a quick project she could complete during nap time. The first idea was modpodge letters with scrapbook paper because I knew she could complete this project pretty fast. When I tell you this project took me less than an hour to complete (including the dry time!), I’m not kidding.
So, she’s already gathered her letters and all the supplies, and she’s ready to modpodge letters to display in her sweet little boy’s nursery! I can’t wait to see her modpodge letters in his nursery. I decided to spell out the word ‘LOVE’ and used a vintage scrapbook print that I could use in my home decor anytime. You could also use old newspaper or even old book pages to make your modpodge letters with this same tutorial. The possibilities are endless with this versatile craft project! Modpodge letters are perfect for home décor, and even a baby or bridal shower because you can customize this project to spell any name or word!
Modpodge Letter Materials:
- Letter(s) of your choice
- Modpodge (this can be found in the aisle with craft glues)
- Scrapbook Paper/Paper of your choice (you’ll need one sheet of paper per letter)
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
- Pencil
Modpodge Letter Directions:
- Place the letter onto a sheet of scrapbook paper. The printed side of the paper should be facing up. Using a pencil, trace the letter onto the scrapbook paper.
- Cut the letter out with scissors and erase any visible pencil markings.
- Using a paint brush, evenly cover the letter with a small amount of modpodge glue.
- Place the scrapbook paper on top of the letter and press down firmly to smooth out any wrinkles. Make sure you have lined up the scrapbook paper cut out with your letter. Once the modpodge glue is applied, it cannot be removed.
- Continue these steps until you have modpodged all the letters.
- Apply a thin layer of modpodge on top of the scrapbook paper and let it dry.
- You may need to use a rolling pin to release any bubbles on the modpodge letters. I had to use this technique on one of my letters (I think it had too much modpodge on the letter).
- Let the modpodge letters dry. It will dry pretty quickly.
- For an added texture, you could apply decorative embellishments to your modpodge letters by simply applying them with hot glue.
I like the simplicity of these modpodge letters and I love the character they add to my vintage ladder.
