The Christmas décor has once again been packed up and the house seems a little bare. That’s why I like to add some winter décor to make my house still feel warm and welcoming. However, after all of the busy and glittery decorations that Christmas brings I crave a little simplicity with my winter décor.
For winter décor, I think about woods and whites mixed with galvanized metals with lots of textures and layers.
You may remember the porcelain Christmas village from my Christmas home tour that I found in the Target dollar spot. I decided to keep them out for winter décor. Mr. Southern Oaks thought I was crazy when I wanted to keep all of the houses out, but I knew they were just what I needed for the winter season!
I just love these little houses! I mean they’re neutral, they fit in with any kind of décor, and I just love the simplicity of them! They add a touch of whimsy to the winter décor when I turn on the tea lights inside of them. (I use battery operated tea lights).
Next I kept out the cute pair of skates that I also found in the Target dollar spot before Christmas. I hung them on the wooden ladder I got for Christmas, and I really like simple the touch of winter décor they add in my living room. (The sign with the Bible verse is from Hobby Lobby).
On my coffee table I added a few more of the houses inside of a galvanized tray and used some snowy, flocked tree branches that I scored after Christmas for like 25 cents each. Since there was only snowy whites on the branches, and no reds, the branches became simple winter décor for an added texture in this vignette. To make winter décor, all you have to do is get rid of the red and bring in the white. A coat of white spray paint is all you need to bring in the winter décor that you can use all season long.
Then I decorated my dining room table with a vintage dough bowl and pinecones. You can find the rustic winter centerpiece here.
One thing that I didn’t get pictures of were my blankets in the living room. During the winter season I have several blankets on my couch for extra layers. Nothing beats curling up on the couch with a warm cup of coffee or tea and a soft, fuzzy blanket to watch your favorite shows on a cold winter day!
