Happy New Year, sweet friends!
Do you make New Year’s resolutions? I never make resolutions because I don’t stick to them. Instead, I reflect on the year and pick a word that sets the tone for the next year. My word of the year signifies what I want to accomplish, ways to improve and plans for a brand new stage of life. I’ve been doing this for several years; and I love how one little word can motivate and inspire me so much.
My word for 2017 was begin. We had just moved into our house and I had so many ideas floating in my head and goals for our house. I talked about and dreamed of starting a blog for many years. I just had to begin the projects around our house and take a huge leap of faith and launch ol’ Southern Oaks.
For 2018, my word of the year is COURAGE.
courage
noun cour·age \ ˈkər-ij , ˈkə-rij \
: mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty
To have the courage to make my dreams happen. The courage to put myself out there, even when that means opening myself up to rejection or failure. The courage to stand up for myself and speak up. The courage to sometimes say no. The courage to break free of anxiety that’s been holding me back and accept things that are out of my control. The courage to sometimes take a step back from all the things on my plate and give myself some balance.
Courage.
Maybe you get it, too? I’m sure many people can use a little courage every now and then. Don’t get me wrong–I’m not putting myself down. This a positive and powerful post to me…and even the first step of COURAGE for the new year. I love having a word of the year and then I pick a Bible verse to go along with it that signifies a fresh start and new beginnings.
Tell me, do you have a word of the year? If so, what’s is your word for 2018? I’d love to know! You can find me on Facebook or Instagram and let’s chat about your word for 2018!
