Today marks ONE year since we moved into our little house! Happy House-a-versary to us! Cue the confetti! I started thinking about moving, and man did it bring back a flood of crazy emotions.
Finding Our House
Gosh, actually finding our home and closing was a hurdle in itself! You may remember the house that got away. What you don’t know is that we actually lost another (historic) home three times. Seriously. Three. To make the story short, we had to find another home super quick because I was NOT giving up my pets to stay at the apartment. We were working with one month to find a home, close and move in. So, it became “Operation: Find a House Fast” and I gave up all of my historic house dreams for my fur babies; but that’s what Mommas do. It’s still gonna happen one day though!
During our search it was really just looking at anything on the market, and hoping I’d just know when it was the right one. I felt like we were on a nightmare episode of “House Hunters” that never ended!
I found it on my lunch break and texted it to our realtor, and we went and looked at the listing the same day. We weren’t the only ones though, we were one of many couples looking and thinking about buying this house; and we were one of four different offers. I wrote a note to the seller, and I like to think my letter had a little something to do with them picking us.
The House
Here’s why I choose our home: built-ins, decorative ceiling details and sliding French doors. Those features are things I love about historic homes, and ultimately sold me on the house. It also had two specific things I wanted for my fur babies: a screened in porch for our cat, Louella Mae, and a huge fenced in yard for our dog, Penny Belle. Sadly, Penny passed away before we finished getting the yard ready for her to enjoy; but she did spend many happy days with her little Louella Mae playing on the porch!
Home Renovation Updates
We’ve already done a lot on the house this year and we still have tons of things on my to-do list! We’ve painted: the bathrooms, our bedroom, dining room, office, hallway, shutters, front and side door and all the trim in those areas! Little by little, I’m making it feel like home and dreaming up new ideas each day. We’re right where we are suppose to be at the moment. Our next big project is the kitchen, and I have some mini projects in store for next year!
This year I learned that home is what you make it; and that love grows best in a little one just like this.
